Video of Traditional Japanese Craft of the Kokeshi Doll

November 2, 2014 Melanie Abrantes

I stumbled upon this beautiful video on Colossal of a Kokeshi Doll being wood turned. It was such a gorgeous process that I felt compelled to share. They have been making these dolls for the past 400 years in Northern Japan and his father taught him and so forth. This video was made to highlight the different crafts that are made in Sendai, Japan, by Tetotetote. It was so soothing to to see and hear the turning of a solid wooden block to a wooden doll. I have not seen wood turning like this, but it made me want to hop on a plane to Japan and learn just that!
