Story of the grey vase

If you have been following me on instagram you might have seen beautiful grey wood that I have been using to make little bud vases. When I buy the wood it looks nothing like how it turns out . The wood is called Buckeye Burl and it is a native california wood. Through spalting the wood changes color from blues to blacks, creams and whites and everything in between. I have even had pink streaks in a couple of mine! It can be a pain to work with because of the many cracks and unstableness of the wood, but it is easily justifiable with how each vase turns out. Truly each one is one of a kind.

Buckeye Burl at the lumber yard! It comes in irregular shapes and sizes. It can be very tricky to work with because of it.
